Resilience does not mean being unaffected.
It means knowing how to care for yourself while caring for others
Are you a First Responder? How do you define Resilient?
-
Recognize your stress.
-
Embrace Support: Build a strong support system.
-
Self Care: Think about the oxygen mask analogy on the airplane. “Put your mask on first, before helping others.”
-
Live Intentionally. Upon awaking, ask yourself, “How do I want to show up today?” Upon going to sleep, ask yourself, “What went well today?”
-
Leave your uniform at the station. You have spent at least 24 hours with your duty crew, spent the night at the station; you are hungry, sleep deprived, and running on adrenaline. How do you transition successfully to your family/partner, to your job or to an academic setting? Leave it at the station.
-
Invest in your physical health.
-
Build Emotional Resilience.
-
Say NO when you need to.
-
Take time for you.
