Understanding Trauma and Posttraumatic Stress in First Responders

I will be teaching a new elective course at the Chicago School, D.C. Campus. The course is “Understanding Trauma and Posttraumatic Stress in First Responders.” There is a shortage of therapists who are knowledgeable about the Fire Service and the stigma around asking for help.

I have lined up several guest presenters to speak about the culture of the Fire Service, operations and hierarchy, medical conditions, increased suicidal risk, as well as the traumatic impact on police and fire service personnel in the course of their duties. We also have experts speaking about fit for duty and return to work assessments, and trauma interventions.
